Here’s my personal review on Safari browser. Yesterday I just had put in the codeproject discussion forums.
The Advantages of Safari Browser
1. It’s performing well to retrieve data faster than IE. (Yea I fees like) This may be depends on the support and contents of different websites
2. Apple Style rendering is really cool. The buttons are looking so good.
3. Clean and simple interface
4. Some websites with Unicode fonts (example malayalam fonts http://deepika.com/ ) are rendering beautiful in Safari
5. Content size of RSS feeds. we can adjust the contents to show in the RSS entries while viewing it
What Safari Lacks than other browser
1. It does not support Ctrl+Enter to fill the web address, which supported by most of the web browsers like Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox
2. Double Clicking on the empty area of Tab control will not create any new tab for creating
3. The Fonts are looking so much darker, even if I selected “light” as the font rendering option. It looks beautiful in some sites. But most of the sites, it could not provide a pretty look.
4. The key combinations are not standard as other browsers. Just take a look at safari key combinations from Help Menu
5. The application hung up many times even it has full process and lot of memory available (may be the problem with beta release)
6. I posted a blog entry in my blog (wordpress blog) using safari browser. The formats are neither appears there.. Finally I manually edited the html tags. Still there are some problems. During copy paste there are some junk characters appeared in the beginning and end of the lines. These may be the problems with wordpress
9. I’m normally using Middle button to close the tabs in my browser. Unfortunately it’s not supported in Safari.
10. Missing Zoom functionality with Ctrl+ + key in numpad and Ctrl+mouse wheel
11. RSS feed are not looking good in Safari
12. The window is not developed with minimize and maximize buttons(internally). So I need to click on Safari’s fake minimize button to minimize the window. (Alt+Sapce+n is the usual key combination I used to minimize windows). Because of this reason it’s not possible to minimize the window even I press Window Key+M
These are my personal opionions and not demotivating, degrading or attempting reduce or boost the popularity of any products. Just take it as an end user opinion.
Anyway nice to be in a new browser. I don’t know why apple calling Safari as “World’s best browser”
You can see some interesting post on Safari Browser by Jeff Atwood and Joel on Software
Also in Joel’s opinion Safari is world’s Slowest Web browser
